The center of the Erin Express universe.
Rittenhouse Square is the geographic and social capital of St Patrick's Day in Philadelphia. If you're on the Erin Express, you'll be here — probably in line at Cavanaugh's.
College-and-just-post-college crowds, sidewalks packed by noon, DJs spilling into the street.
Rittenhouse is where the Erin Express started, and it's still where the crawl is loudest. Cavanaugh's Rittenhouse, Misconduct Tavern, Fadó, The Dandelion and Lucy's are all within a five-block walk of the square itself.
The neighborhood swells on Erin Express weekend and again on March 17th. Sidewalks are one-way by 1pm. Uber surge pricing kicks in around 11am and stays until midnight — plan on walking.
If you want the loudest, most quintessential Philly St Paddy's, this is your neighborhood. If you want to actually sit down and eat, book a table at The Dandelion for the day before or the day after.
SEPTA: Walnut-Locust (Broad Street Line) or 19th/22nd Street (Market-Frankford Line trolleys). Between Rittenhouse and Headhouse Square it's a 20-minute walk or a short Uber.
Philadelphia's longest-running St Patrick's Day bar crawl. 30+ bars, free cover, free t-shirts.
